Where did you learn all that you know about the law? Did someone take you under their wing? Give you advice? Share a form with you?
If you are established in your legal career, consider serving as a mentor to a new lawyer. You are an invaluable resource for someone just starting out in the profession.
The Multnomah Bar Association and Oregon State Bar both offer mentoring opportunities. The Oregon State Bar is actively seeking mentors now:
“The time commitment is a minimum of one mentor-initiated contact each month, although the mentor/mentee can communicate as often as they wish. This program is intended to help new lawyers transition from law school to practice, it is not an employment solicitation program or recruiting device.”
Apply here. The deadline is March 31, 2010.
If you are a new lawyer looking for a mentor, submit a Mentee Questionnaire.
For information about the Multnomah Bar Association mentor program, contact the MBA at 503.222.3275 • 503.243.1881 fax • mba@mbabar.org.
